Minisode 21 – Rose and Knight: Drink Between the Lines

Listen on Podbean

We’ve got a double-hitter for you this week! Apologies for the delays – grad school is hard and extremely time-consuming. But have no fear! Drink Between the Lines is here! (This week with Ashley Fosse).

Poetry by Chrissy Schreiber in the style of Sofie Rose:

I
They left me in shadows
Mouth gaping
A voiceless ghost

I drift aimlessly away
Reaching out for something
Anything solid enough
But everything is solid except for me

II
Splashes of color
Faces in frames
Making something new
It’s hard to invade
Without letting them know
That’s what you’re doing

III
{Are you sure that’s what you want}

She thought it was
{I’ve never heard you talk about it before}
Jack of All Trades
Master of None
Waffler
{Nobody will judge you if you quit}
She’s not quitting
She’s starting something new

Or maybe she should listen
to the people who know her best
Or maybe she should listen
to the people who have known her longest

Does she look forward to new opportunities
Or does she hold onto tradition

Poetry by Jacquie Burckley in the style of Etheridge Knight:

Stickers
I would like to be without shame
Ethereal light, blush pink powder.
Dew sticks to cheek and bone; majesty frame,
Honored humility as a pen name.

Stained shame appears
On my fingers and teeth. Do’s and
Words and souvenir. Dirty pane separates
Fish and feed. Character un-smeared

From sticker and cling, slumber on cloud,
The sweet air tickles and sings; but down
Am I, with a knapsack of wishes,
Under root and unavowed.

Lucifer
Dark is the devil when
He sings to me; piano plays
Knocking on Heaven’s Door

A Viking Haiku
1
Ivar the boneless
crawls and brawls, chasing away
the children of sand.

2
Avenge he fails and
dies from fire at the stake;
Hvitserk was his name.

3
Of Ouroboros
is Sigurd Snake-in-the-Eye;
he cedes so he lives.

4
Martyrs the king, he
plunders city and country:
Ubba in battle.

5
Cheeks painted chalk white
Eyes cry blood-stained rage;
Candied crown of bone.

6
Horses have daybreak
and calloused foot in the night,
Imminent bloodshed.

7
Iron pen and wood
uproot Northumbria by
sea and sand and storm.

8
Lands reigned by rain claimed
victory in chronicles
of Norse history.

9
Breathe dust sites named the
war cemetery of the
Great Heathen Army.
