Poetry by Chrissy Schreiber in the style of Amy Maier:
1
choking on water
I saw the ripples above
your face distorted
alone, I can not break free
anchors bind me in the deep
2
fingertips
bridge the gap
heart in my throat
I am blind but I know you
guaranteed elation
3
a pit of poison
the belly
bile burning
spew vile words of spite
make me sicker
Poetry by Jacquie Burckley in the style of Siegfried Sassoon:
Two Story Texas
I pin the photograph next to your note;
The fan dances shadows in the light
Oscillate memories from my thoughts,
Confirm ideals, confession contrite
Through the sky, journey home; hungry with no
appetite.
My Washington Friend
Gone on a Wednesday; I remember it well.
Sticky blue ice cream racing down my wrist
On your childhood ghost I will not dwell;
Your childhood ghost and I coexist.
White marble table and two fast farewells,
Starts one on a passage, the other? Sole.
Steadfast I stay, for I am quelled,
Cease to exist but only in my soul.
The Green Room
Corner crouching, crying, and I quiver;
Peel off clothes from sweating body, I shiver.
Body to shell to corpse to skeleton
Spirit fleeting, I’m no longer feminine
